Mining giant set to attack national park?

GABON, near the Republic of Congo — Mining giant BHP Billiton is set to acquire the Belinga iron ore deposit in Gabon, a government resources official told Bloomberg this week.

Rights to the deposit have been held by China Machinery Engineering Corp. since 2006, according to International Business Times.

The newspaper reported that citizens of Gabon have expressed concern over mining in an environmentally critical area. They note that the deposit is situation in the middle of Ivindo National Park.
