Forbidden games: Emirates bans SR3

Posted: November 7, 2011 in Uncategorized

We’ve long been aware that some of the most talented creatives we’ve known have work in the gaming industry.

Until we visited Down Under, however, we had no idea that some video games are banned in various countries.

Australia, for example, banned Dark Sector for “high-impact violence” and Risen for “inappropriate sexual material and drug use.”

Most recently, the United Arab Emirates banned Saints Row 3, reported Gaminginentertainment.

Saudi Arabia banned Pokémon cards (though not the video game) for Zionism and violence … which leaves us SOL as we rarely travel without our Pokémon cards.

The US Supreme Court struck down a ban imposed by the State of California on the rental or sale of violent video games to minors.

Here’s a list of banned games from Wikipedia.
